Finally Friday – Destiny, Faith, and Wisdom – July 17 Devotions

Finally Friday – Destiny, Faith, and Wisdom – July 17 Devotions

It’s finally Friday again! And on this Friday afternoon, I had my follow-up appointment with the orthopedic surgeon who performed the “interposition arthroplasty of intercarpal joints” –in other words, the reconstructive surgery on my right basal thumb joint back on May 14th.   Two months post-surgery, my scar now looks better than that last photo- not as red-but I still have swelling in my hand and wrist, and don’t have full range of motion yet. So according to the doctor,…

Sunday, June 21 – Happy Father’s Day and First Day of Summer!

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there – and to the moms who are filling the dad role for a variety of reasons! This is my 13th Father’s Day without my beloved Dad who passed away in 2002 and it’s still a difficult holiday for my siblings and me.   Also, Happy First Day of Summer! How’s the weather in your part of the world? Here it was kind of chilly (60s) and raining most of the day,…

Follow-up Friday – Phase 2 Recovery Begins – May 29

Happy last Friday in May! I apologize for my absence for three days, but since I’m still typing with only my left hand, I’m not going to try to make up the missing days’ posts. I’m calling this “Follow-up Friday” so I can share what has happened since I last posted on Monday.     *Tuesday the 26th On Tuesday, I had the sutures removed from the incision and got a new splint that I will now have to wear…

Doctor’s Trip Tuesday – May 19 Guest Blog Featuring Wendy Marcum

WHY????? Why must I be so klutzy at exactly the wrong time??? The pain meds make me dizzy and light-headed, and I lost my balance after standing up too fast, going around the end of the bed. Yup, caught myself with THAT hand…heard and felt something snap.¬† So I had to go back on Tuesday to see the orthopedic doctor who did my surgery…hoping it wasn’t serious! Fortunately, as it turned out, no fractures and no disruption of the reconstructive…

Change of Pace Friday – 5-15-15

Change of Pace Friday – 5-15-15

So yesterday, Friday, was 5-15-15, a date that looks nearly symmetrical as written, and is in fact another palindrome (mentioned this phenomenon the other day HERE). In other words, the numbers are the same both forward and backward.   But that wasn’t the only thing different about the day. It was a total change of pace because I was one day post-surgery, and hubby and I are in the midst of a role reversal where he is taking on my…

Surgery Thursday – May 14 – Also 3 Things Thursday

Surgery Thursday – May 14 – Also 3 Things Thursday

So yesterday, May 14, was “Surgery Thursday.” AND 3 Things Thursday! I’m now typing with my left hand, because of course I’m right-handed! This issue started as osteoarthritis and continued to degenerate to the point that bone was grinding on bone, and created bone fragments. My thumb joint has been swollen and painful now for several months, and I’ve lost a significant amount of functionality. ¬†Thursday Thing #1: **SURGERY** So the surgery involved first removing the bone fragments, followed by…
