It’s Super Bowl Sunday and I just watched
MY PATRIOTS win after being down by 25 points!!
For a couple weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, there was much discussion comparing Tom Brady and the Patriots with Matt Ryan and the Falcons, as they all approached this huge competition known as the 51st Super Bowl. It’s typical to make such comparisons in the world of sports, when competition is expected. It’s quite another to compare and compete against each other in day to day life.
So onto this Sunday’s inspirational thought…
“In Galatians 6:4, the apostle Paul exhorts you to grow in the Lord until you come to the point you can have the personal satisfaction and joy of doing something commendable in itself alone without resorting to boastful comparison with other people.
Thank God, once you know who you are in Christ, you are set free from the stress of comparison and competition. You know you have worth and value apart from your works and accomplishments. Therefore, you can do your best to glorify God, rather than just trying to be better than someone else.
What a glorious, wonderful freedom to be secure in Christ and not have to be controlled by strife, envy, or jealousy. You can be who God created you to be! He doesn’t make mistakes!”
–Joyce Meyer in “Ending Your Day Right”
I’ve never really enjoyed the competition/comparison “game” — I’m not a confrontational person to begin with, so competing with others doesn’t appeal to me. I also have never appreciated being compared to others, so I really TRY not to do that to anyone else, either. It’s nice to know my value as a person isn’t based on my accomplishments or lack thereof!
So What Are YOUR Thoughts?
Do you enjoy competition, or do you prefer to quietly move ahead at your own pace?
Do you believe your value is based on YOU, not on what you DO?
