Choosing to Do the Right Thing – Even When Nobody is Watching

Choosing to Do the Right Thing – Even When Nobody is Watching

What If Nobody Looks?

What If Nobody KNOWS?

Have you ever wondered about that?

What keeps a person on the right track even when nobody is looking?

What if nobody even KNOWS the details or circumstances?

It’s a matter of integrity and honesty, having the self-motivation and self-discipline to always choose to do the right thing.

Now onto today’s inspirational thought…

“Self-discipline is keeping yourself going in the right direction without someone making you do so.

The problem is that somehow people have gotten the wrong idea that everything in life is supposed to be easy.

You need to be a person who is self-motivated and self-disciplined; who does what is right because it is right, not because someone may be looking or because someone is making you do it.”

–Joyce Meyer in “Ending Your Day Right”

 My Reflections

This devotional brings to mind the concept of “situational ethics” — choosing to do the right thing because it’s right, rather than basing your decision on the situation at the moment or caving in to the pressure of society or “political correctness.”

So What Are YOUR Thoughts?

Do you find it easy to do the right thing when nobody is looking?

Have you experienced pressure in social settings to make decisions you might not make otherwise?

  1. Hi K. Lee, This reminds me of the verse in Colossians, Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. We receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. Right? This is a good way to focus on doing what’s right. Excellent post. Have a great week. 🙂
