Yes, it’s Thursday again and that means…Three Things Thursday!! 🙂 It’s a beautiful, sunny, warm day in Maine today…such a nice day after such a LONG winter. I mean, we still had snow on the ground in April! So today is a welcome, refreshing change, and one that inspires me in numerous ways.

Thursday Thing #1.**National Day of Prayer**
Today, May 7th, is the 64th National Day of Prayer. Obviously, prayer is a good thing to do everyday, even if briefly and informally. But from the NDP FAQ page, here is a brief explanation of when this national recognition day started and what it represents:
“The National Day of Prayer was established as an annual event in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. The observance of the National Day of Prayer is founded on the constitutional rights of freedom of speech and freedom of religion and can be celebrated by all Americans. This government-proclaimed day is offered to all Americans, regardless of religion, to celebrate their faith through prayer.”
Regardless of anyone’s religious or spiritual beliefs, I think we can at least all agree this nation, and this world, are in dire need of relief and change as so much evil abounds and seems to be increasing. Prayer certainly can’t hurt and might just initiate welcome changes for everyone’s benefit!
Thursday Thing #2. **Contemplation**
Contemplation seems to be a natural by-product of praying: Thinking or concentrating deeply on something worthy of attention and consideration. A beautiful day like today also lends itself to contemplation and inspiration. I managed to get some freelance work done before noon today, and took care of another urgent matter. After blogging, sharing, and commenting in various groups, and visiting other blogs, I plan to do some more sewing and continue my contemplation. Some of that now relates to next week’s impending surgery and the recovery period, as my ability to type and sew will be restricted for awhile.
I have realized that “down” time will be ideal for doing more reading and catching up on things like various workshops I’ve paid for and never had time to get through all the materials; visit and read other blogs I’ve bookmarked; maybe even finally go through my email inboxes and folders, and do some virtual spring-cleaning! Hey, maybe I’ll even be able to do some real spring-cleaning and de-cluttering around here, carefully and left-handed!
Thursday Thing #3. **Devotions**
So now, devotions, of course, since sharing devotional and inspirational thoughts are among the main purposes of this blog. I have recently learned that some people in a certain blog commenting group don’t like this blog and refuse to share or promote any posts from it. That saddens me, because even if people don’t hold to “Christian” beliefs–it seems that everyone can benefit from inspirational, positive thoughts and quotes! Oh well, I guess that’s their loss!
Anyway, remember you can also read Psalms and Proverbs to accompany each day on my page, Daily Scripture Readings. And you can put compassion into action–whether through praying, sharing the linked causes, and/or donating.

-1- Once more, on brokenness…you would think someone is trying to communicate something! But I do like that line about being thankful we are not where we USED to be, even though we have not yet arrived to that place we need to be.
-2- It’s amazing how relevant these devotionals are so many times. Not only are both of these about aspects of prayer on this National Day of Prayer–but the subject matter is so fitting for me, right now. I tend to routinely deplete my resources and get burned out; I’m thinking my upcoming forced break from my routine is going to be a time of restoration and renewal, and perhaps a time of gaining new perspective and new creative ideas.
