Sunny Sunday – Belated April 12 Devotions
Still catching up…We finally had a beautiful sunny Sunday here in Maine–much more like a spring day SHOULD be, even though we still have patches of snow here and there. We’re supposed to have temps into the 60s and maybe even hit 70 this upcoming week, though, so maybe by the next weekend, winter and its residual snow will finally be gone!
Now onto Sunday’s belated devotional shares. Remember, you can read Psalms and Proverbs to accompany each day on my page, Daily Scripture Readings.
“Lord, I’m so thankful that You don’t hold a pair of scales and ask me to pile up enough good works to outweigh my sins, my failures, my unworthiness….it’s all by grace through faith.
What an incentive to live a life that pleases You, that brings You joy and not grief!”
–Ruth Myers in “31 Days of Praise”
“He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.” –Psalm 103:10-13
“The first step in doing anything is choosing to do it. In order to forgive, you first choose to forgive. In order to be at peace, you first choose not to worry. In order to start something new, you first choose to step out and go for it. You may not know now how it’s all going to work out, but you can can make some foundational choices today.
It’s as simple as saying to yourself, ‘Today I choose peace over worry! Today I choose to break that old habit! Today I choose not to lash out in anger!’
Make a choice; take a step today, and never forget to ask for God’s help (His grace) in executing your choice. We can do all things with and through Him, but we can do nothing without Him (see John 15:5; Philippians 4:13).”
–Joyce Meyer in “You Can Begin Again”
-1- It’s so relieving to know we don’t have to “pile up enough good works” to outweigh all the bad choices we’ve made in life! I’m so thankful for God’s grace!
-2- And again, God’s grace and the choices we make. I don’t always think about that idea that everything we do requires making a choice first, even though it’s not always a conscious choice…kind of like breathing, I guess!
So what are YOUR thoughts? Have you ever felt like you have to keep piling up good things to outweigh bad things in your life?
Have you thought about how many choices we make throughout a day, even without consciously pondering what choice to make?
