Rules of Happiness #2 – Be Grateful – July 14 Inspiration

at

Be grateful. Welcome to the mini-series highlighting the Rules of Happiness, based on the book by entrepreneur and self-development leader, Karl Moore. After a difficult past month,  I thought it would be good to focus on something more positive and uplifting. These simple rules yield valuable truths and life-changing power IF we take action on them.

Please note these links go to Moore’s book on Amazon, but are NOT affiliate links. I just thought I would provide the links for anyone who is interested. Note also what I’m sharing in these blog posts are just snippets from full chapters on each Rule of Happiness.

Yesterday we learned about Rule #1: Don’t Feel Sorry for Yourself.  So today we will move on to…

Rule #2 –  Be Grateful

Think of all the wonderful things you have to be grateful for right now. It could be your family. Or your health. Maybe your home. Your friends. Your brain. Your heart. Your spirit.

We’ve all got amazing things in our own lives that make us smile with joy. And if we can count these blessings every day, we’ll discover a greater appreciation of the beautiful world we surround ourselves with.” –Karl Moore

If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life

is thank you,

it will be enough.”

Meister Eckhardt

My reflections:

I have noticed a difference in my overall attitude toward life ever since I began my nearly daily posting of an “Attitude of Gratitude” on Facebook in November 2013 or so. It definitely helps to focus on the positive by counting your blessings!

~~*~~

So what are YOUR thoughts?

Do you find it easy or difficult to practice an attitude of gratitude?

Do you count your blessings on a regular basis?

It’s a great post. I too have got so much to show gratitude for, it’s far more positive than the is being told ‘you should be grateful’ missive I grew up with 🙂

Well, to be honest, gratitude does not come naturally to me. I tend to go to what’s missing, what’s not quite right, what could be a threat to my wellbeing. But I am working on it. Today, your post reminds me to be thankful for all the good things I have. My beloved family & friends, my spirituality, my work, and lots more. Thx!

No doubt it helps to be grateful! I typically don’t do the “post something you’re grateful for every day” things because I forget to post… but i am very grateful for many, many things in my life. My family, my friends, the awesome art co-op I am part of, my church, my home, etc.

Isnt’ it funny how what we focus on can happen? I think that is the Secret of the Secret. It’s not magic. It’s just how we use our energy. Like you and your posting!

I think it’s important to be grateful for what you have. Not just because it’s an obligation or something like that, but it helps you maintain a positive attitude throughout the day. This is a lovely message!

That should always be the case for all people. It’s not difficult to find good things that happened or happening in your life right now and stopping to appreciate them. Great inspirational post!

I have been through so much in the last 5 or so years that I can always be grateful and gracious in every situation. I am compassionate and understanding about most and still keep a smile in the worst of situations. I think it does no one any harm to be nice and to try and put a smile on through a day and just give a little happiness back.

I do a gratitude list atleast twice a week. it helps me stay humble and realize all the great things i have in my life to be greatful for and not to complain about what I dont have.

I don’t “count” the aspects of my life that are positive and that I am grateful for each day, but I do think about things I am thankful for each day. Truth be told, even on our worst days where we aren’t getting along, I have to admit that I am still grateful to have such a wonderful husband, for example. I think one of the most important things is to not compare the worst parts of your life to the best of someone else’s. You can never have everything, and if someone has something you don’t, they probably lack something you have in another aspect. That’s balance!
