Rules of Happiness #14 – Enjoy Simple Pleasures – January 19 Devotions

Enjoy life’s simple pleasures. What does this mean to you? In my life, simple pleasures include spending time with hubby Dave, whether we’re talking after supper about our days, or snuggling together on the couch watching a NASCAR race.  Simple pleasures for us also include cuddling with any one of our fur babies (2 dogs, 8 cats!) or just watching them play.

Time spent with family, especially the grandchildren, is definitely among the top simple pleasures: such as my 3-year-old granddaughter telling my daughter to call or Skype, because she wants to talk to “Grami” – or watching and listening to my almost  18-month-old granddaughter squeal with delight over a new toy!

For  me, simple pleasures also include sewing, crafting, and quilting; socializing online with family and friends; and blogging and interacting with others in the blogging community. This means YOU, dear readers of my blogs! 🙂 I really appreciate all of you who visit, and who take the time to leave comments (I must get into the habit of responding to comments, as well), and especially to know that what I share here is a blessing to you. That’s encouraging for me to know that, since that was the intended purpose of this blog!

So we are up to #14 of Karl Moore’s Rules of Happiness. Only 4 to go! I should mention here again that these are NOT affiliate links to his book (which goes into more detail on each rule — I’m just sharing excerpts with the main ideas of each). I just thought it was worth sharing and it has made for a nice series of blog posts, and well-received, based on readers’ comments!

Here are #1 – #13  in case you have missed any, or would like to look back at them:

Rule #1: Stop Feeling Sorry for Yourself.

Rule #2: Be Grateful

Rule #3: Say Yes More

Rule # 4: Follow Your Bliss

Rule #5: Learn to Let Go

Rule #6: Do Random Acts of Kindness

Rule #7: Happiness is Only Ever Now

Rule #8: Experience, Don’t Hoard!

Rule #9: Experience Both Sides of the Coin

Rule #10: Be More Social

Rule #11: Love More

Rule #12: Have a Dream

Rule #13: Set Direction with Intention

Onto today’s rule…

Rule #14 – Enjoy Simple Pleasures

“It’s an attitude. The ability to appreciate the happiness, the beauty, the pleasure in the simple things around us.

Remember the simple things that you truly enjoy. Then take time out to experience them again.

Or even better, turn them into little daily or weekly rituals, filling your life with sunshine.

Quite simply, enjoy simple pleasures and rituals – and you will be happy.” –Karl Moore

Simplicity is the essence of happiness.”

– Cedric Bledsoe

My reflections:

As I said at the beginning of this post, I have so many things in life that I consider simple pleasures. I fully agree with this rule of happiness, because engaging in any of my favorite simple pleasures makes me happy and joyful!

~~*~~

So what are YOUR thoughts?

Do simple pleasures in your life make you happy? Have you taken time to think about them and pursue them more often?

  1. Our phone account was hacked in December, and it has been nothing but problems since – including a number of long phone calls with our phone carrier. Really makes me appreciate the simple pleasures of life – like having time for yourself, lol. I’ve been loving this series, by the way, when I have time to enjoy it.

  2. Nice post which makes me have to think a moment about what I consider my simple pleasures, walking on the beach, reading and my morning cup of coffee come to mind! You are right, we should all take time to enjoy each and every one!

  3. It’s important to enjoy and appreciate the simple things in life. That’s definitely one of the things that will make you happy!

  4. Hit the nail on the head. The simple things tend to be the things we take for granted but every now and then I stop and think just how lucky I am and it fills my heart with happiness
