Leave Regrets in the Past – February 25 Inspiration

Leave regrets in the past. Usually easier said than done! Obviously it’s compassionate and appropriate to feel bad for things we have done wrong, for bad choices, for mistakes, and to do what we can to repair damages, ask for forgiveness, or otherwise “fix” what we can. But then, the best action is to learn from our mistakes and move forward, applying what we have learned to avoid repeating mistakes, and not live with those regrets weighing us down.

Here is today’s inspirational thought…

“Regret is ruining the lives of countless people

by stealing their joy.

Certainly you have things you wish

you had done differently.

But there is no sense becoming burdened with regret

over something you have no power to change.

You need to understand this is the way the devil works.

God will warn you so you can change your mind

before you make a mistake.

Satan waits until it’s too late,

when you can no longer do anything about it,

and then tries to heap regret and condemnation upon you.

Don’t allow Satan to steal from you any longer.

Ask God for forgiveness, if you haven’t already,

and leave your regrets in the past.”

–Joyce Meyer in “Ending Your Day Right”

My reflections:

I’m one who tends to hold onto things, so trying to let go of regrets is difficult, especially when I’m still dealing with effects today of those things I regret from the past. Yet I know, as this devotional says, there’s nothing I can do to change the past, and dwelling on these regrets only makes me feel worse. I think the secret is not only to ask God, and others as appropriate, for forgiveness, but to RECEIVE the forgiveness and move forward. Kind of like unlocking and removing the padlock on a gate and going through it.

So what are YOUR thoughts?

Do you tend to hold onto regrets?

When you let go of those regrets, do you feel as if a weight has lifted?

  1. Beautifully expressed. I agree, regret robs you from living a fulfilling life. I’ve been there, and had to forgive myself. But most importantly, I had to realize God forgave me too.

  2. I try to think of bad choices as lessons for the future, at least that’s how I see it now. There’s no use in having regrets, really, it’s just another room for negativity and who needs that in their lives, right?

  3. I have regrets from past but that don’t stop me or made me down. I always give my worries to God and asks for his direction. I am glad that everything is falling into right place now and all the glory to HIM.

I love this post. Very inspiring. Thank you!
