Insecurity vs. God’s Approval – February 27 Inspiration

at

Insecurity is rampant. And related to insecurity is anxiety over not gaining approval from people, for our choices, our lifestyles, or ourselves. It seems like the natural human response to crave approval, and if we don’t get it, we tend to feel anxious, sad, and insecure. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that insecurity is a negative energy, and it will only lead to more negativity in our lives unless we become less concerned about seeking approval from others.

Here’s your  thought-provoking inspiration for this Saturday…

“There is an epidemic of insecurity in our society today.

Many people are insecure and feel bad about themselves,

which steals their joy and causes major problems

in all their relationships.

Those who have been hurt  badly often seek

the approval of others to try to overcome

their feelings of rejection and low self-esteem.

They suffer from those feelings

and use the addiction of approval

to try to remove the pain.

They are miserable if anyone seems to not approve

of them in any way for any reason,

and they are anxious about the disapproval

they feel until they are once again accepted.

They may do almost anything to gain the approval

they feel they have lost–even things

their conscience tells them are wrong.

For example, if a person is met with disapproval…

she might change her plans…just to gain approval.

She compromises herself for the sake of feeling approved.

Remember whose approval you should truly seek–God’s.”

My reflections:

I have been here many times in the past, but thank God, I don’t seem to struggle with worrying about approval from people or to struggle with insecurity as much as I used to. I don’t know if getting older contributes to simply not caring as much what people think of me. Instead, I focus on seeking God’s approval, knowing that places me in secure and right standing before Him and before the people who truly matter.

So what are YOUR thoughts?

Do you struggle with insecurity or seek approval from others?

Have the opinions of others ever made you change your plans so you could meet with their approval?

    Hi,
Do you think approval and respect are the same?

It all starts once we compare ourselves to others. We can’t afford that kind of mind set especially when we’re going through an ordeal or we’re just starting something with our lives. Insecurity can drain you and your drive to be better.

I definitely have anxiety. It has become so severe since the death of my husband. I never knew how hateful people were until that happened. I have always been insecure and I think being banned from his funeral and treated the way I was just pushed me over the edge. I have tried – and still try – to overcome it and be positive, but it is so hard. I have changed my plans so many times to try to meet approval but I have found that often makes people push you more to do what they want which sure does not make you happy. Thank you for this inspiration. It was a little ray of sunshine in a stressful day.

Insecurity is a beast and it will become your own worst enemy! I struggled with it in the past and know first hand what it will can to a person.

I know that I am definitely guilty of this. I try hard though to not be insecure though I have bad days and its really just staring you in the face. I just need to remembe that if I don’t accept myself, who else will?

There are times I am insecure but I don’t feel like it is in the sense of trying to gain approval from others. I think it’s more of instances. For example, I feel insecure today because I don’t feel pretty. Or I feel insecure today because of of what someone said. But I could never imagine turning that insecurity around and causing someone else pain just for approval.

Yes – “insecurities” are serious excuses in this day and age. All the things outside of ourselves confuse our understanding of what is inside ourselves – who we truly are and recognizing what we truly need versus all those things that we want. The “insecurity” is envy and unresolved issues we have that blocks our true path to happiness. No one can make you feel bad about anything – take control of your precious moments and make it worth it.
