Here at Words of Encouragement…
**NOVEMBER MEANS: GRATITUDE CHALLENGE!!**
I am thankful for this Veterans Day in the USA as we remember all those who have served (and are serving) our country in the military, especially those who died during their service. I also am thankful for those parents, spouses, partners, and families who sacrifice so much while their loved ones are away serving in the military.
Fortunately, none of the people I know personally have lost their lives while serving in the military, but my thoughts and prayers go out to all those family members and friends who have lost loved ones who died while defending our country.
My parents served in Korea in the 1950s; Mom in the Air Force and Dad in the Army. Even though their earthly remains reside in the Veterans Cemetery in New Hampshire, I know their spirits are alive and well in their heavenly home.
So for Veterans Day, I thought I would share a few quotes from The Quote Garden about this special day.
“It is easy to take liberty for granted,
when you have never had it taken from you.”
~Author unknown, sometimes attributed to M. Grundler
“How important it is for us to recognize
and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!“
“This nation will remain the land of the free
only so long as it is the home of the brave.”
“The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name
and the inheritance of a great example.”
“And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.”
“Our veterans left everything they knew and loved
and served with exemplary dedication and courage
so we could all know a safer America
and a more just world.
They have been tested in ways
the rest of us may never fully understand….
On Veterans Day, and every day, let us show them
the extraordinary gratitude they so rightly deserve…”
~Barack Obama, 2015 November 5th,
quoted from The White House Office of the Press Secretary
So what are YOUR thoughts?
Did you serve or are you serving in the military? (If so, thank you!)
Do you know someone who served or is serving in the military?
King-sized military quilt I made several years ago for a friend’s son, who is now a retired marine.
