First Friday – May 1 Devotions on Improving Your Life

It’s first Friday – the first Friday in May! Happy May Day!  I’m really not sure where the first four months of 2015 went, but wow – they are GONE already!

I want to take this opportunity, on this first day of May, to thank you all for reading my blog, for your heartfelt comments, and for those who follow and/or subscribe to my blog. I really appreciate it! I know if my Dad was still alive–the one to whom this blog is dedicated–he would also be pleased to see that so many of you are encouraged by the words shared here, as I endeavor to carry on his legacy and gift of encouraging others.

So onto our May Day devotions. Remember, too, you can read Psalms and Proverbs to accompany each day on my page, Daily Scripture Readings. AND you have an opportunity on my newest page to put compassion into action–whether through praying, sharing the linked causes, and/or donating.

“Lord, thank You that You love me deeply and tenderly. You are compassionate and gracious, full of lovingkindness, ready to forgive, patiently considerate, and generous beyond imagining.

You desire my love and rejoice to do good things for me. You delight to give me the desires of my heart as I delight myself in You. How precious is Your love to me, O God! I sing for joy as I take refuge in the shadow of Your wings!”

–Ruth Myers in “31 Days of Praise”

“If you have made your mind up that you intend to enjoy the best life God has for you, you must realize that it begins with you. You must believe what God’s Word says about you more than you believe what others say or what your feelings or own mind says.

Maybe you had negative messages fed to you since you were a child. You may have experienced one or more broken relationships and became convinced it was your fault. But whatever the reason for your self-doubt and negative attitude toward yourself, it has to change if you truly desire to enjoy God’s best in your life.

Resist and refuse to let doubt convince you that good things won’t happen to you and your family; aggressively expect good things! Ask God to give you divine supernatural favor and then expect to see it in your life daily.

Pray: Lord, I believe that Your favor supersedes anything that has happened in my life. I expect to see Your blessings poured out today. Amen.”

–Joyce Meyer in “The Confident Woman Devotional”

-1- I always find comfort in this devotional, each first day of the month when I read it, as it’s encouraging to know God loves me unconditionally AND wants to give me the desires of my heart that are in line with His will for me.

-2- Another thought-provoking devotional thought about making right choices. We have to choose to believe what God says about us, focus on the positive, resist doubt and negativity, and trust in God and His divine favor.

So what are YOUR thoughts?

Do you know and believe that God truly loves YOU, unconditionally, regardless of mistakes or faults you may have? Again, it’s about WHO you are, not WHAT you do!

Do you find it easy or difficult to overcome negative experiences of the past–or present–so you can focus on the positive and believe God for His divine direction and favor in your life?

I do believe God truly loves me and wants the best for me.

Sometimes I have found it hard to overcome some f the experience I have went through. When I know I am having a hard time. I pray to God to take me in his arms and hold me up high. As I know I can not go through it alone. As I am having a hard time. That I need his unconditional love and guidance. he always answers my prayers.

Hi K-Lee – and I always enjoy your insightful posts – thank you – If you look and dwell on the past, well God cannot come in and talk to you – when we learn from the past we can let the bad experiences dissolve and allow God in stronger – Hugs 🙂

Thanks for sharing today. When I was younger I had a much harder time letting go of negative experiences of my past, but the older and wiser I’ve grown, the easier it has become. I try to live in a sort of “nothing you can do about the past, focus on the future” kind of mentality.

For me, and maybe for most humans, it’s harder to get past our own dissapointment and expectations than it is to believe or not believe in God.

It’s our human emotions that get in the way of anything bigger.

Yes aggressively expect good things! I like that. I sometimes forget that God wants all good in my life. His job isn’t to punish me. And what I focus on grows-good or bad so I better focus on good!

Thanks for sharing this. It’s been a journey for me to learn that God loves me for me, not for what I do. It’s really hard to separate what I do from who I am because we are so easily defined by what we do.

Yes, I do believe wholeheartedly that God loves me unconditionally. I still find it hard to forgive myself, but I’m working on that 😉

Karen, I love that you offer daily encouragement. Even though I don’t comment daily, I love knowing I can always come here when I am in need of a lift!
