Fellowship with Family and Friends – NOT with Your Faults!

Fellowship with Family and Friends – NOT with Your Faults!

Do NOT Fellowship with Your Faults!

Cooler weather tends to force people to spend more time indoors, of course, leading to closer fellowship with one another.

Enjoying the company of loved ones is fine, BUT…we shouldn’t fellowship with our faults! Some people are often quite happy to point out our faults to us…but we more often tend to be our own worst critics!

According to our handy online dictionary, we learn that fellowship as a verb, in this context, means to form a friendly association or relationship with someone or something.

That doesn’t really sound like something we should want to do with our faults and failures!

We would be much better off to change that negative behavior into a positive one by implementing a “growth mindset.” Then we can choose to take proactive steps to improve those areas of weakness. We can also practice an “attitude of gratitude” for our God-given gifts, abilities, and strengths, and spend time with people who likewise encourage and support us as we seek to grow into better versions of ourselves, by the grace of God.

So here is your inspiration for today…

“Meditating on all of our faults and failures weakens us, but meditating on God’s grace and willingness to forgive strengthens us. Our relationship and fellowship are to be with God, not with our sins.

How much do you fellowship with your sins, failures, mistakes, and weaknesses? Whatever amount of time it is, it is wasted.

When you sin, admit it, ask for forgiveness, and then continue your fellowship with God. Don’t let your sins come between you and the Lord.”

~~Joyce Meyer in “New Day New You”

My Reflections

My favorite theme in this devotional is that we aren’t supposed to fellowship with our faults!

It reminds me of the “misery loves company” saying. Just as we should forgive others and build them up, we should also forgive ourselves and build ourselves up–not tear ourselves down!

So What Are YOUR Thoughts?

Have you ever heard of the idea that you shouldn’t fellowship with your faults?

Can you think of times when you might have a tendency to do this?

  1. Really true and something that we should overlook. Thanks for this inspiration.

  2. This is very interesting actually. But what about someone that doesn’t seem to find a way to do that? Can you help?

  3. To be honest, this is something I am currently struggling with- that is, the self forgiveness part. I am trying as hard as I can to do better and be better.

  4. Self-critism is something I struggle with greatly…though many times I see myself as a work in progress I sometimes forget to take a couple of steps back and be proud of myself. This is something that I am working on though and I’m learning to see things in more of a growing journey rather than from a judgemental point of view. It’s funny how I can be really good at not judging others but when it comes to myself I have a heavy hand.

  5. I am my own worse critic. I can do something right and to me it looks or sounds or taste wrong but others like it. I have gotten better at not being so hard on myself but I still have my moments.

  6. This is something I need more of. Would definitely make for creating a great day! Thank you for reminding us of that
