Enjoying Life’s Simple Pleasures

Enjoying Life’s Simple Pleasures

I missed posting yesterday, Saturday, January 8th, because I was out of state with my hubby, having a delayed Christmas celebration with my two youngest daughters, sons-in-law, and granddaughters. I was definitely enjoying life’s simple pleasures, which consisted of spending time with family and cuddling my newest 3-week-old granddaughter. Prior to that, we stopped at the Veterans Cemetery so I could visit my parents’ final resting places.

I am thankful everyday  for  life’s simple pleasures. What does this mean to you? In my life, simple pleasures include spending time with hubby Dave, whether we’re talking after supper on weeknights about our days, or snuggling together on the couch during the weekend watching a NASCAR race or a football or hockey game.  Simple pleasures for us also include cuddling with any or many of our fur babies (2 dogs, 8 cats!) or just watching them play.

Time spent with family, especially the grandchildren, is definitely among the top simple pleasures: such as my 4-year-old granddaughter telling my daughter to call or Skype, because she wants to talk to “Grami” – or watching and listening to my  2-year-old granddaughter jabber to me or squeal with delight over a new toy– or visiting and snuggling with my newest 3-week-old granddaughter!

For me, simple pleasures also include sewing, crafting, and quilting; socializing online with family and friends; and blogging and interacting with others in the blogging community. This means YOU, dear readers of my blogs! 🙂 I really appreciate all of you who visit, and who take the time to leave comments (I must get into the habit of responding to comments, as well), and especially to know that what I share here is a blessing to you. That’s encouraging for me to know that, since that was the intended purpose of this blog!

Here’s a thought for this Sunday from Karl Moore’s Rules of Happiness.

Rule #14 – Enjoy Simple Pleasures

It’s an attitude. The ability to appreciate the happiness, the beauty, the pleasure in the simple things around us.

Remember the simple things that you truly enjoy. Then take time out to experience them again.

Or even better, turn them into little daily or weekly rituals, filling your life with sunshine.

Quite simply, enjoy simple pleasures and rituals – and you will be happy.” –Karl Moore

Simplicity is the essence of happiness.”

– Cedric Bledsoe

My reflections:

As I said at the beginning of this post, I have so many things in life that I consider simple pleasures. I fully agree with this rule of happiness, because engaging in any of my favorite simple pleasures makes me happy and joyful!

So what are YOUR thoughts?

Do simple pleasures in your life make you happy?

Have you taken time to think about them and pursue them more often?

  1. Hi Karen,
Wonderful post …. we overlook the simpler things in life way to often .. that’s why yesterday when it snowed I wore sandals. I wanted to see how my feet would feel without the protection of shoes. Something I’m sure many, perhaps on other countries have felt. How I appreciate heat, shoes, socks, and my husband who bought me a new pair of boots …lol (drives him nuts when I wear sandals)

  3. Karen, thanks for this post and charming photos. Karl Moore wrote great book for getting over yourself and be happy! His 18 rules are easy for anyone to follow. Rule #14 – Enjoy Simple Pleasures – is my favorite!
