End of 2016 – Three Things Thursday: Fur Babies, Nor’easter, and Devotions!
In my other blog at K. Lee Banks, Inspired Freelance Consultant, I started following this Three Things Thursday idea awhile back, but not consistently. But as I’m trying to wrap up 2016 in a positive, productive manner to set the pace for 2017, I decided to re-launch this idea. I first learned about Three Things Thursday from a fellow blogger, who I virtually met in one of our mutual Facebook blogging groups. She has recently focused on other things in her blog, but this blogger still does some great Three Things Thursday blog posts.
So my three things for today are the following.
1.FUR BABIES!! 🙂 I’ve mentioned them before, but we do have a houseful of fur babies: 8 cats and 2 dogs! They are all rescue animals from one source or another, but they are all part of the family now! My hubby Dave and I still can’t get over how affectionate they all are and how much they like to spend time with us–as much as we like to spend with them! And now that winter has firmly taken hold on Maine, the extra warmth snuggling together is very welcome!
2.NOR’EASTER!! The first major storm of the season is upon us at this moment, as I write. We have had a couple of recent light snowfall storms, but this is the classic “nor’easter” with high winds, chance of power outages (hope not!), and possibly 12 to 18 inches of snowfall! We had about 4 inches of new snow earlier today, with big fluffy snowflakes falling (tried to capture the view out our picture window, in the video below). It’s supposed to increase overnight, though, between 10pm to 2am tomorrow, with heavier snowfall. Should be winter wonderland in the morning!
3. DEVOTIONS!! Well, yeah–since that’s become my standard daily practice here at Words of Encouragement, it is definitely one of my three things for this Thursday, December 29th. So here are today’s inspirational thoughts. Remember, you can also read Psalms and Proverbs to accompany each day at my page, Daily Scripture Readings.
“We cannot do everything, and do anything well.
Quality is much better than quantity.
Oh, how much better life would be
if we all took time to think about
what we are about to do before we do it.
It is amazing how one good night’s sleep
changes our minds.
Emotions are fickle and ever changing.
This is the reason why it is dangerous
to do things based on high emotions
without giving plenty of consideration
to everything involved.
Remember to think before you act.
Pray: ‘Lord, I ask you to give me wisdom
as to what I give my time and attention.
Help me to be busy with the right things
and to give my best to those things. Amen.”
–Joyce Meyer in “The Confident Woman Devotional”
This is such an excellent reminder on many levels and I can so relate to it: don’t take on so much that we get overwhelmed and can’t do any of it well; don’t trust emotions; and take time to think before acting on something.
So what are YOUR thoughts?
Do you often take on too much and find yourself struggling to do any of it well?
Or are you able to balance your time and effort, for a more relaxed, less anxious lifestyle?
