Do You Have the Power to Do What’s Right When Nobody Is Looking?

Have you ever wondered about that? What keeps a person on the right track even when nobody is looking? It’s a matter of integrity and honesty, having the self-motivation and self-discipline to always choose to do the right thing.

Now onto today’s inspirational thought…

 “Self-discipline is keeping yourself going

in the right direction

without someone making you do so.

The problem is that somehow

people have gotten the wrong idea

that  everything in life is supposed to be easy.

You need to be a person

who is self-motivated and self-disciplined;

who does what is right because it is right,

not because someone may be looking

or because someone is making you do it.”

–Joyce Meyer in “Ending Your Day Right”

My Reflections

This devotional brings to mind the concept of “situational ethics” — choosing to do the right thing because it’s right, rather than caving to the pressure of society or “political correctness.”

So What Are YOUR Thoughts?

Do you find it easy to do the right thing even when nobody is looking?

Have you experienced pressure in social settings to make decisions you might not make otherwise?

This is such a great topic. I would like to hope I do the right thing when no one else is looking. I’ll admit that I don’t all the time. If I’m in a hurry, I tend to rush. But, I do the right thing for me, not to impress others.

I do try to do the right thing, not the convenient thing. Sometimes, I don’t succeed. But I know that I can learn from my mistakes and I can do better the next time! As humans, we are works in progress and growth is possible!

You really know how to shake the hornet’s nest, don’t ya?

In this instance, and this doesn’t detract from my usual lack of character, I tend to do the right thing even when no one but myself will know.

It’s simple really. I learned long ago the harm that comes from not keeping self commitments. Not pretty…
