Relationship or religion? My beloved Dad used to talk about the difference all the time. People would mention being religious or following some specific religion, and ask him about his religion. Dad always said it’s all about a relationship, not a religion – as in having a personal relationship with God, not merely fulfilling religious duties as part of an organized religion or denomination. Another of my Dad’s relevant sayings on living a true Christian life: Walk the walk, don’t just talk the talk!
Here’s today’s inspiration…
“When the Bible says we must be born again –
it doesn’t say that we must be religious.
The greatest hindrance to hearing from God
is trying to get to Him through works
instead of a personal relationship with Him
by being born again
and fellowshipping with Him regularly.
People can go to church for years
and do religious things all their lives
without ever knowing Jesus
as the Lord of their lives.
As I often say, ‘Sitting in church
won’t make a person a Christian
any more than sitting in a garage
will make him a car.'”
~~Joyce Meyer in “New Day New You”
“By reading the scriptures, I am so renewed
that all nature seems renewed
around me and with me.
The sky seems to be a pure, cooler blue,
the trees a deeper green.
The whole world is charged
with the glory of God
and I feel fire and music under my feet.”
“Not all religion
is to be found in the church,
any more than all knowledge
is found in the classroom.“
“Organized Christianity has probably done more
to retard the ideals that were its founders’
than any other agency in the world.”
~Richard Le Gallienne
“People who want to share
their religious views with you
almost never want you to share yours with them.”
~Dave Barry, “Things That It Took Me 50 Years to Learn“

I was raised to believe in and have a personal relationship with God as my heavenly Father, and have accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. In spite of the persecution and genocide taking place in many parts of the world, I’m not ashamed to say I’m a Christian.
So what are YOUR thoughts?
If you care to share, do you follow any particular religion’s teaching?
Likewise, only if you care to share, do you have that personal relationship with God or any higher power?
One of my favorite fall displays every year–the “calico” tree with variegated colors.
