Do What You Can Do to Clean Up Messes – February 23 Inspiration

Do what you CAN do to clean up messes. Nothing gets done unless we take action. Obviously we need to first create a plan and intend to carry out the plan, but only action will ensure the plan is fulfilled. It would be like setting out all the ingredients for a batch of cookies, intending to make them, and then just standing there looking at the collection of ingredients and the recipe.

No fresh baked cookies will materialize without following that recipe, combining the ingredients properly, scooping cookie dough into individual cookies onto a pan, and baking the cookies at the right temperature for the right amount of time. Then, of course, we need to clean up the mess left behind from mixing and baking the cookies before we enjoy the outcome of our efforts.

Here is your Tuesday inspiration…

“Get up and start doing whatever you can do

to get the messes in your life cleaned up.

Don’t worry about what your spouse  is not doing;

just do your part and God will reward you.

If you have a financial mess,

stop spending and start paying off your debts.

A lot of laziness is rooted in fear.

People are so afraid to do something,

they form a habit of doing nothing.

They sit idly by and become jealous of the people

who have the life they would like to have.

They fail to realize things cannot work out for them,

if they don’t work!

Remember: If you do what you CAN do,

God will do what you CANNOT do.”

–Joyce Meyer in “The Confident Woman Devotional”

My reflections:

This is certainly one of those “kick in the butt” kind of devotionals, and all the focus is on each of us individually to be personally responsible and accountable for our own actions. Two of my favorite lines: “People are so afraid to do something, they form a habit of doing nothing.” And “If you do what you CAN do, God will do what you CANNOT do.”

So what are YOUR thoughts?

Do you find it difficult to focus only on what YOU need to do for positive changes in your life, instead of what others around you need to do?

Have you ever chosen to do nothing, instead of something, simply out of fear or not knowing the best action to take?

  3. I think it depends. Sometimes things depend on another person to do something before my piece can happe .

  4. I believe fear but also low self-belief in yourself can make it difficult to make changes – it’s easier to make realistic easy step by step small goals towards the bigger plan

  5. I have done this all the time. Sometimes it is easier to pretend its nothing but doing that makes the long term consequences fatal!

  6. I fall into the blame trap a lot – when there’s a mess I tend to wonder who caused it and why. I’m getting better at taking ownership of what’s mine and keeping my world in order – I like a neat life!

  9. What a beautiful message. There’s no perfect time to take action, you just have to do it. I agree that some laziness is derived from fear of doing something.

  10. Sometimes I don’t know how to fix a mess, so I just put it off. One of my faults.

  11. This is absolutely a great read. You shared an very inspiring post,

  12. I enjoyed reading this. Thank you for making me inspired

  13. I totally agree with this, but first I must make a list and see what needs to get done. You can’t help others unless you help yourself

  14. A very uplifting post, few days ago my husband and I were talking about what we want to accomplish till the day we both ready to retire. And we both said we may be working so hard right now but we should not forget to unwind once in a while. We also closer to paying off all our debt. It takes a lot of hard work, patient and sacrifice.
