Confidence vs. Negativity – June 6 Inspiration

Confidence vs. negativity. Is it possible for the two to co-exist? Think about a time you have felt especially confident –did you feel strong and positive, or weak and negative?

Here’s your Monday inspiration to ponder this topic:

“A confident woman is positive.

Confidence and negativity

do not go together.

They are like oil and water;

they simply do not mix.

Being positive or negative is a choice–

it is a way of thinking, speaking, and acting.

Either one comes from a habit

that has been formed in our lives

through repetitious behavior.

Expect good things from God today–

He won’t let you down.

Pray: Lord, I look to You for my joy and gladness.

I ask You to drive the negativity and sighing

away from my life

and fill me with the joy of Your Spirit. Amen.”

–Joyce Meyer in “The Confident Woman Devotional”

My reflections:

Interesting thought, that confidence and negativity cannot co-exist. And, as with so many things in life, we have to CHOOSE whether we want to focus on the positive or the negative.

So what are YOUR thoughts?

Do you easily live with confidence, or does negativity sneak in?

Do you agree that confidence and negativity cannot co-exist?

This Post Has 45 Comments

  1. This is a hard one. I am a confident person but negativity will sneak in. It is human nature

  2. Negative patterns can be hard to break. As far as confidence goes, fake it til you make it has always been my motto!

  3. I can be pretty confident that certain paths have negative consequences. Is that negativity. I hope not.

  4. Negative thoughts are difficult to get rid of completely. This is a great affirmation to remember and say each day.

  5. I think we all have negativity creep in sometimes. However, in the last year, I’ve made serious efforts to live a more positive life. I’ve started exercising, eating well, and taking care of myself. I’ve noticed my confidence is surging and I’m not attracted to negative thoughts as much.

  6. the negative thoughts can be a pain for sure.I always try and think positive.

  7. It is not easy to walk with confidence every day, but it is possible to learn coping mechanisms when negativity wants to invade our minds. Like you explained, some people confuse confidence with having a huge ego or feeling more important than others, that by itself brings negative energy. Being humble and confident it’s the perfect combination.

  8. I think I am a positive person. I try to find good in almost everything.

  9. I am pretty confident. It is very rare for negativity to creep in and when it rears its ugly head I calmly put it in its place

  10. Beautiful thought! Something I needed to hear and read about on a rough Monday! Sometimes we need such reminders !

  11. I wish I could say that I’m confident and sure, but really, I let negativity rule a little too often…

  12. I think it would be unrealistic to assume that even the most empowered person does not have a tinge of negativity now and then. I look at it like this – it is not about never feeling negative things, but the fact that we come out of the dark place and prevail that makes us even more empowered and a positive influence to others.

  13. I agree with you. The more positive you are, the more you can do and accomplish.

  14. I think one can be confident and negative at the same time. Many situation have more than one aspect to them.

  15. I do think so, even though sometimes it can be quite difficult.

  16. That is quite interesting.
I flow with both confidence and negativity.
I go with confidence when I have to get things done, and even if negativity comes in, or tries to keep me back, I get through it with God’s help.

  17. Being positive about everything is so beneficial. It gives you motivation and it gives you strength to push through no matter how challenging the situation is. This is such a nice post to begin the week with!

  18. You know positivity and negativity cannot coexist because multiplying them does not make a neutral, it makes a negative, every time.

  19. I do tend to negative thoughts but, through the years, have learned that so much of life is all about attitude. Confidence, to me, has always been a struggle.

  20. Very interesting. We cannot be confident about everything all the time, negativity will always be there, even if only in the background.

  21. I have to agree that confidence and negativity cannot exist at the same time. Negativity is something that really bothers me; it drives me crazy when people are negative.

  22. I am a very confident person but at the same time I do believe that negativity can always come into play no matter what you are doing just don’t let it take over your life.

  23. True confidence comes from the Lord. Anything else is arrogance in my opinion. When we KNOW where our blessing comes from, when we receive it humbly that is confidence.:)

  24. Negativity doesn’t have space in my mind. I hate to think of negative things but instead, I stay positive and go on with life.

  25. I love the last quote. Negativity comes, but I always try to shut it out. I like to stay positive all the time.

  26. I am confident with what I am doing and as much as possible, I let go of negative comments I received from other people.

  27. I am confident to a point it seems to irritate people sometimes. I can also be pretty negative, though it’s not so much that I’m a negative person, just a perfectionist 🙂 I am a very hopeful person!

  28. I like confident woman, with all the difficult and negative situation around, a confident woman will still stand with a poise.

  29. Whenever I feel confident, I feel positive too. If I will feel negative, I think there is no point of getting confident at all.

  30. It’s so hard to be positive sometimes, but it really does change things!

  31. Oooooh, I love the quote at the bottom! I recently started a new job and really struggled with confrontation (I’m the boss now), and confidence-building has been a big thing for me.

  32. It depends with how “negative” is used, it’s semantics. Being confident needs a positive attitude though, so I guess that might answer it objectively.

  33. love that last one , there are times that I feel I have more experience and do so many things different. I love that it is not that I have to be more than them it is that I am in a class of my own

  34. I love the quote that’s at the very bottom of this post. I think confidence has been a bit of a struggle for me though life. I try not to be so negative, but it’s hard at times.

  35. I do think that negative people have a false confidence. Sometimes it can confuse us.

  36. Whenever I feel confident, I felt like I can conquer the world.

  37. It’s hard to be confident all of the time, but I try! My least favorite attribute in others (and myself) is negativity – time to turn and run!!

  38. I am confident in some respects and in others I have to fake the confidence because I am always my own worst critic.

  39. Its Ying Yang with confidence and negativity. I think you ave to find the balance. Push out as much negativity as you can and its replaced with confidence. Let the negativity creep in and it reduces your confidence.

  40. Sometimes I have negative thought.. I guess I cant control them .. But It is up to me keep thinking on them or focus in good things

  41. I am definitely a confident person for sure, but that does not mean negativity wont arise in the mid of my confident day! But I just take negativity as lessons & try to convert them to positive ones. Thanks for inspiring.

  42. I agree. I don’t feel they can co-exist. I feel that negativity would simply cancel out any confidence I have. I love this moment of inspiration and the thought it helped to provoke. Thanks for sharing!

  43. There are opposites but life is about such opposites or contrary things – it fuels growth. I am quite confident but have moments of negativity and try to use them to boost my growth, etc.

  44. Interesting read and something I’d never considered. I think a confident person can be negative at times but probably does not let it linger.

  45. I know the more negative I feel, the worse I feel about myself and my surroundings. So no, I don’t think they can coexist!
