Choosing to Get Off the Pity Pot!

at

Choosing to get OFF the pity pot!!  Sometimes it requires  lots of effort to not give in to feeling sorry for ourselves and instead seeking God’s help to rise above whatever person or circumstance is pulling us down. The overall atmosphere, online and elsewhere, for the past few months has been especially contentious and frustrating. It’s certainly easy to get bogged down emotionally and even entertain pity parties when things aren’t going the way we think they should.  In order to uplift the spirit and lighten the mood, I thought I’d once again share a  thought  from the 18 Rules of Happiness by Karl Moore.

This is actually Moore’s first rule of happiness, although it’s more of an admonishment.

Stop Feeling Sorry for Yourself!

It’s not going to help the situation. It’ll only help you to wallow in a state of apathy, playing the victim.

The kind of person that things happen to, but that can’t do anything about it.

By stopping feeling sorry for yourself, you can actually get on and DO something about it.

If you want to be happy – stop feeling sorry for yourself.” –Karl Moore

Self-pity is our worst enemy and if we yield to it,

we can never do anything wise in this world.”

My Reflections

This one is an “ouchy”! It’s far too easy to give in to self-pity sometimes, especially over the past few months with so many people saying such mean and hateful comments. Yet I know self-pity is not, honestly, a good feeling and only produces more negative feelings. And it truly does remind me of a saying I’ve heard many times: “Get off the pity pot!” (Hence the blog title!)

So What Are YOUR Thoughts?

Do you think ridding your life of self-pity will lead to happiness and gratitude?

Do you think you might continue struggling with self-pity, or learn to overcome it, depending on circumstances and events in your life?

I love the images you chose for this post, especially the one about how there aren’t any good presents at pity parties.
