Anxiety: Leaving Today and Wandering Into the Past or the Future

Anxiety and stress are dangerous for our health–physical, mental, and emotional. According to WebMD, stress occurs when we face “continuous challenges without relief or relaxation between challenges.” In addition, stress “can lead to physical symptoms including headaches, upset stomach, elevated blood pressure, chest pain, and problems sleeping…. stress also can bring on or worsen certain symptoms or diseases.

Anxiety is a by-product of stress and leads to additional problems, such as a variety of anxiety and stress disorders. Not only all those things, but stress and anxiety often make people turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms and substance abuse. So it would be in our best interest to do all we can to alleviate stress and anxiety in our lives, and seek help if necessary.

Here’s your Friday inspiration… Have a nice weekend! 🙂

“Anxiety is caused by trying to mentally and emotionally get into things that are not here yet or that have already passed–mentally leaving today and getting into an area of the past or the future.

We need to be responsible, but we also need to relax and take things as they come without getting all nervous and upset. Learn to enjoy the good life God provided for you. In spite of all the troubling things going on in the world, make this daily confession: ‘This is the day the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it.’ “

My Reflections

I really like this saying about anxiety and must remember it: anxiety ismentally leaving today and getting into an area of the past or the future.

We can’t change the past, and we can’t project ourselves into the future, so it really doesn’t do us any good to be anxious or worried about either one!

We should, however, remember to reach out for help and encouragement from others when we’re in stress or anxiety overload. There’s no shame in asking for help when we need it!

So What Are YOUR Thoughts?

Do you struggle with anxiety? Do you have a supportive network to help you?

Or do you try to remain calm and take each day, each moment, one step at a time?

I’m trying to do better about taking each day & situation as it comes. There really isn’t anything good about worrying about things you can’t control.

I have friends and family to support me whenever I feel down. Also, the first thing I do is to pray to God to make me calm and sane.
